Blogtember 24: September 24
I am not that great a re-creating things myself so I will change it up and post about blogs whose designs I love! There are so many awesome blogs and blog designs that I feel compelled to share ones that I find attractive and would love have one just as good one day.
I love how simple her blog design is and how it doesn’t overtake or distract form her writing. I love it! Plus she has good style too! I love one of Catherine’s recent post on her She Plans To-Do List Planner. It looks so cute and useful!
Happily Ever Ashley Rogers
This is a new blog and I love it! I discovered this blog through The College Prepster blog. There are some things that i can relate to on Ashley’s blog such as her struggles with teaching. I am facing similar problems in my teaching journey now and am wrestling with leaving the classroom in the next school year. Her design is also clean and simple! I love the design around her blog title on the main page of the blog. This is a fabulous start to a great blog. I think I was guided to her blog at the right time because I was I am struggling with things in my classroom and considered not doing teaching next year. So I’ll see what happens.
With All My Affection
This is another pretty but simple blog. I love the touch of color on the top of the blog as well as the script font for the title. I follow her blog to see her makeup and beauty reviews. One of her recent posts I like in on the O.P.I. Washington D.C. collection. The colors are gorgeous and perfect for the fall season. There is another post which caught my attention and it is about organic makeup from Vapor Beauty. The review was good and I would like to try those products.
What are some of your favorite blogs or blogs with great designs?
Blogtember 22:Fall favorites. Share your must-haves for this season.
Pumpkin, Pumpkin, and more Pumpkin
I love baking during the fall and will always bake a batch of pumpkin chocolate chip muffins a few days before fall begins. I also like to bake pumpkin bread and this year will try my hand at pumpkin chocolate chip oat cookies. I also love pumpkin picking in the fall! I miss this because there are no pumpkin patches where I live now. It is not the same without a traditional pumpkin patch.
Since I was a little girl my family has always gone apple picking every year. We would pick various types of apples and then make pies with them when we got home. We had a go to orchard when I lived in NY and another one by where I went to college. Since being down here I have not been able to go apple picking because they do not have apple orchards whomp, whomp.
Leaves Changing Color
This was one of my favorite events of the fall season especially in college. My college was situated right across the river form mountains and I was able to see the leaves on the trees change throughout the seasons. Fall was my favorite because I was able to see the green leaves change to brown, orange, and red! The whole color scheme of the mountain changed and instead of looking at an all green place I saw bright fall colors.
Boots & Sweaters
Fall was the season where I would break out my boots and sweaters from my wardrobe and put them to good use. Sadly, the South is too hot for me to make use of these items and it makes me really sad. In all of the time I have been down here I have not wore a sweater or my boots because it is way too hot and it sucks. So, no fall clothes for me. I am sure one day I will live somewhere where the seasons are more visible again.
Blogtember 23: A family recipe
This is one of my favorite family recipes ever! It is a sour cream apple cake and it is the best! I remember making this with my grandma growing up! I have brought this cake to parties and have made it for friends birthdays. I have always heard positive things from others about this treat! So I couldn’t find the exact recipe she used but this one should be close enough.
Sour Cream Apple Walnut Bundt Cake
For the Crumble Topping:
1 c. All-Purpose Flour
½ c. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
¼ tsp. Kosher Salt
1 stick Unsalted Butter, melted
For the Cake:
2 c. All-Purpose Flour
1 ½ tsp. Baking Powder
¼ tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Cinnamon
½ tsp. Nutmeg
1 c. Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
1 8 oz. container (1 scant c.) Sour Cream
½ c. (1 stick) Unsalted Butter, melted and cooled
6 large Apples (I used 2 Golden Delicious, 4 Braeburn), peeled and thinly sliced
additional butter and flour for preparing the pan
1. Preheat oven to 350°. Butter and flour a tube pan.
2. Make the crumb topping. Whisk together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl. Pour in the melted butter and stir with a fork until large clumps form. Set aside.
3.In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla, sour cream, and butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in the apple slices.
5. Dollop the cake batter into the prepared pan. Spread with a spatula to evenly distribute the apples and create a fairly level top. Sprinkle clumps of the crumb topping evenly over the top of the cake.
6.Bake until a tester inserted in the center of the ring glides through the apples and comes out free of cake batter, about 1 hour, 5-10 minutes. I would start checking at 50 or 55 minutes as apple cake baking times tend to vary based on size/variety of apples used.
7.Cool the cake for 10-15 minutes in the full pan, then remove the outer portion and allow to cool at least another 15 before you attempt to pull it off the pan completely. Serve the cake warm.
So, there are times in my life where I feel stuck and like my life is going nowhere. This is currently occurring in my life and it sucks. Many people around me are hitting their goals, growing within their career, finding love, and just progressing in their life and here I am just watching it all happen. While good things are occurring for others my life is on a standstill and no matter how hard I try nothing is going in my favor. Just when I think I have conquered something I get knocked backwards. It is frustrating and hard not to wonder when it be my time to shine and actually have something positive happen. This year has been a tough one and one of the toughest ones full of setbacks and lots of let downs. I at least want to end it with something positive. So far I am stuck like glue in mediocre job, lack of a love life, friends who are not truly there for me, and some health issues. I know there are a lot of things for me to be grateful for this year but it is hard watching others be successful and I’m still stuck and am trying my hardest to fix things in my life. I guess I will just need to try even harder and keep on trucking and much as it sucks. As I do that I will wonder when I will finally catch my big break and when the pieces will fall into place for me. For now I will be the girl stuck in limbo and doing my best to keep it all together while trying not to fall apart.
